Hi, I’m Dani.

Hi, I’m Dani! I’m 26, originally from the Netherlands, and I’ve been living in the Barcelona area for four years, recently making the cozy move by the sea to Badalona.

My journey here started like many others: I moved to Barcelona for my studies, completed an internship, and wrote my thesis here. After falling in love with the lifestyle and culture, I decided to stay long-term. But because Barcelona is such a dynamic, fast-paced city, doing so many different things and experiencing exchange life meant I watched a lot of friends come and go over the years. When I officially decided to settle down here, I longed for a consistent, reliable group of girl friends who were also living in the area for the long haul.

However, life had an unexpected detour in store for me. A year ago, I was diagnosed with endometriosis, which temporarily forced me to press pause on my life. Because of the symptoms and unpredictable health challenges, making plans and going out simply wasn’t possible for a long time.

While I’m still actively managing my endometriosis every day, starting Girls and the City has been my way of slowly picking up my life again and rebuilding my routine at my own pace. I’m sharing this openly because I want to bring more awareness to endometriosis. I know so many women navigate chronic pain in silence, and I know that there are girls in our community going through a similar experience.

Looking around at existing social groups, I noticed how many required expensive monthly memberships or charged high fees just to join an activity. That became my biggest motivation for starting this community.

Above all, I started Girls and the City with a clear mission: I want to prove that making new friends and finding a girls group doesn’t have to be expensive, and that building a local circle shouldn’t feel like a luxury. I want to make sure you can return to our events again and again, meet the same lovely faces, and build real, lasting roots in the city, all without having to break the bank or pay expensive subscription fees.
